Gone with the wind is not a song.
Gone with the wind is not a sound installation.
Gone with the wind is an environment created by sounds.
Gone with the wind is distant pianos and field recordings from airports, trains, cities and parks from
all over Europe. There is no beginning and no end. Only photographs filling the space
with sounds through a quadraphonic PA.
Gone with the wind is meant to be played in parks and public spaces.
Where people can walk through sounds, sit down, lay down, fall asleep while listening,
or just pass by for few seconds.
Gone with the wind is an ever-changing composition, where the wind is shifting sounds and surrounding
environmental noises
come and take part in the performance.
Gone with the wind has been played at Parco San Giuliano (Mestre/Venice, Italy) the biggest park in Europe (
view from airplane)
on the 29 May 2004, during the opening events of the Park. The performance has
also been held in a small park in the centre of Bitola (Macedonia, 7 June 2004)
during the 2004 edition of the Elementi art festival; again in Mestre at park of
Villa Franchin (Italy, 2 July 2004) during the closing day of the 2003/04
activities.
Technical requirements
Mixing desk with (at least) four independent inputs and outputs. Four (or more, up to 8) surround speakers.
Sound sources and short description of the composition
The composition is an improvisation made with piano fragments and field recordings (played and recorded by e.g.ø). Field recordings are taken from airplanes, trains, boats, cities and parks all over europe. The performance should happen in public spaces, possibly green areas where people can sit or lay down. However, it could be performed also in galleries/indoor spaces, with a relaxed environment (pillows on the floor, few lights, etc). In case of indoor spaces there could be visuals projected. Visuals must be related to the concept (nature and trips/means of transportations). Usually the sound environment is part of the composition, so windy places with the presence of birds and other creatures are preferred. The composition can also have a real-time part with a microphone sampling small instruments (e.g. musicbox, toy xylophone), the environment or e.g.ø's voice singing. There is no fixed duration, from a minimum of 30 minutes up to hours and hours.
